Dim lighting, not too dark, not too light…At eye level, straight to the back the jukebox sits, adjacent to a nice old fashioned bar surrounded by 12 brown leather stools; to the right, five windows each with their very own neon beer sign; to the left, an old speaker which blares out tunes from the radio or jukebox. There are no tables inside, just leather booths which are so comfortable you can almost melt in them.

For a good old fashioned hamburger in one of Boulder’s oldest establishments, only Tom’s Tavern will do!

“Where am I? Is this Boulder?”

Yes, it IS Boulder actually. Tom’s Tavern has been around since 1910, so it is definitely the best place to go to get a feel of the essence of “old” Boulder. Tom’s has over ten different sandwiches/burgers to choose from, a tasty BBQ rib platter, chili, salad, and for drinks, there are over 20 bottled beers with 5 on tap, plus a full bar.
I chose the cheeseburger ($7.25) which was cooked to perfection, and came with a nice portion of delicious French fries and yummy cole slaw. My friends had the grilled chicken sandwich ($7.25) and the garden burger ($6.75) which they supremely enjoyed.

Walking out the door, from the old consoled speaker, Woody Guthrie’s voice followed me like the memory of an old friend: “From California, to the New York Island…This land is made for you and me…”　　A perfect ending to great American establishment. (Written by G.T)
